The Northwestern University Zen Society

Special Events

Sesshin:  Intensive Retreats

One of the activities open to NU Zen Society members is sesshin, traditional intensive Zen retreats.  Lasting from 4 to 6 days, sesshin are incredible opportunities to deepen your Zen training and look deeply into who you really are.

Sesshin are held three times yearly; two of these are conducted in Evanston, and a third is held at a camp in Wisconsin.  See the "Calendar" page for dates.

Zazenkai:  Mini Zen Retreats

Zazenkai are one-day practice sessions, usually lasting about 6 hours.  These mini retreats are conducted at Daiyuzenji temple in Chicago on the first Saturday of every month, 6:30-11:30pm.  Our members usually travel down as a group.

Lectures

Once each quarter, the Society offers a public lecture on Zen or Zen-related topics.

Other Events

Society members periodically get together for other events like meditation on the beach, camping trips, after-meeting dinners, etc.  If you have an idea for a Zen Society event, come to a meeting and let us know!
